Community Observation Guide

A simple practice for noticing where God is already at work.

Before we make assumptions...

we learn to observe.

Before we create solutions...

we learn to notice.

Because God is already at work in places we may have overlooked.

Why Observation Matters

Every neighborhood tells a story.

People move.

Families change.

Schools grow.

Businesses open and close.

New cultures arrive.

Some people are searching for community.

Others are quietly carrying burdens.

Learning to observe means learning to notice the people God has already placed around us.

Observation is an act of love.

Observation isn't collecting information.

It isn't conducting research.

It isn't evaluating a community.

Observation begins with curiosity.

It asks simple questions.

It notices ordinary life.

Before we try to solve problems...

we first learn to see people.

What are we looking for?

As you walk, drive, or spend time in your community, simply notice:

• Where do people naturally gather?

• What places seem full of life?

• Where do people appear isolated?

• What languages do you hear?

• Which generations live nearby?

• What schools, cafés, parks, or businesses bring people together?

• Where do you already see signs of hope?

• Where might God already be opening doors for relationships?

Don't worry about finding every answer.

Simply begin noticing.

Remember

The goal isn't completing an assignment.

The goal is becoming the kind of leader who notices.

Every meaningful relationship begins with paying attention.

Every faithful step begins by seeing what others often miss.
